Digital Reporting for Executive Recruiting Insights
Company: Heidrick & Struggles
Role: Visual Designer
Industry: Executive Recruiting
Timeline: July 2022 – September 2023
Project Overview
Heidrick & Struggles is a leadership consulting firm that specializes in executive recruiting placement. Part of their offering is a series of assessments that leaders complete about their professional impact, capabilities, potential, and purpose. We re-designed the visual language of the integrated report that is generated for each assessed leader.
Being a leader in executive search services, they faced a bottleneck with sharing insights with employers on candidates. Our challenge was to design the digital report based on client assessments, enhance aesthetics and consistency, and ultimately highlight key leadership expertise from the assessments.
My Contributions
Design a robust report that highlight the client's executive insights that align directly with the foundations of Heidrick & Struggles methodologies. Set up design standards and patterns for users to follow throughout the report and to be used in future reporting.
Design Goals
1. Rapid ideation and prototype design concepts with stakeholders.
2. Validate design concepts with users.
3. Collaborate with the Tazio development team to implement approved designs and features.
Heidrick & Struggles was a highly collaborative client. We met with them multiple times a week to define weekly goals, set deadlines, present work, and handoff final designs. A step-by-step process allowed us iterate quickly and deliver fast. The process was focused around conducting ideation and prototyping sessions with stakeholders to develop and refine design concepts for the new features.
Receive previous designs:
Our process started with receiving previous designs from the client & project manager. We review the previous designs to understand the client's vision for the page and to identify any areas that need improvement.
Requirements for new design:
We discuss new key concepts and copy changes with the client to ensure that we have a clear understanding of the client's needs.
Estimate amount of time it will take to complete the design:
We then estimated the amount of time it would take to complete the design, taking into account the complexity of the design, the number of revisions required, and our availability. We communicate the estimated time frame to the client to then start planning the next sprint.
Redesign the page with new requirements:
I create new design for the page, incorporating the new copy changes and key concepts from the clientWhile focused on created a design both visually appealing and user-friendly, I designed for scalability, white labeling, and multiple languages.
Present & ideate with clients: Presented multiple design options to the client for feedback. We refined the design to ensure that it met the client's needs by creating additional versions of the design to incorporate the client's feedback.
Propose new solution and deliver final page:
We presented the final design to the client for approval. Once the design is approved, the we delivered the final design to the client and repeated for the 80 page report.

The four main sections of the report were color coded and given a different arrangement of the circular icon shown in the center.

All parts of the report follow similar patterns. We created a type stack to stay consistent with typography and paragraph styles and created templates for callouts, key takeaways, and data visualizations all following our grid.

Although the data visualization vary in each section, the consistent weight of rules, identifiers, and legends were made into components for scalability.

Framework Model Exploration
The system in which the user identifies where they are in the report was the most important to explore. The report is structured around the Heidrick Leadership Framework, which consists of four main categories: Business Impact, Leadership Capability, Leadership Potential, and Culture Impact. This framework is essential for identifying and developing effective leaders, as it provides a holistic view of the critical attributes that contribute to success. Heidrick has requested that we explore the development of a visual model to illustrate these four areas as interconnected parts of a whole, representing Heidrick's assessment framework.
The Frame: The individual pieces of the frame form a whole while combining graphic elements that signify the unique pieces of the assessment.
The Journey: The ball represents the user's journey through the executive assessment, visualizing the flow and ebb of their experience during the four main categories.
The Convergence: Highlighting how the framework supports individuals in developing their well-roundedness.
The Solar System: The original design used abstract shapes to signify transcending a user's potential with the help of the assessment tools. Similar to 'reaching fo the stars.'
