Endpoint Detection & Response
Comcast Business

Company: Comcast Business Mid-Market
Role: User Experience & Interface Designer
Industry: Connectivity, Cybersecurity, Communication Technology
Timeline: Apr 2023 – Aug 2023
Client Background
Comcast Business Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) service monitors your devices, servers, and cloud platforms to detect and respond to endpoint cybersecurity threats. EDR monitors for malicious or suspicious endpoint behaviors by qualified Security Operations Center (SOC) personnel 24/7.
Project Summary
The challenge was to create a product that could allow for administrators to assign roles to their users, manage those users, and viewing user's profiles, and having them access resources.
My Contributions
Engaged in collaborative efforts with senior UX designers, content strategists, developers, and stakeholders to meticulously define UI patterns, functionalities, and behaviors, aligning them with user needs and business objectives. Contributed significantly to foundational UX activities, including wireframing and information architecture. Generated detailed design specifications tailored for effortless handoff to development partners. Designed interfaces that not only adhere to established patterns and interaction conventions but also innovate to enhance user experiences. Took complete ownership of the end-to-end UX journey, driving strategic planning and executing new features with precision. Crafted detailed user stories to with accompanying designs for the development team.

(Only showing the 3 main wire framed screens) In order to align with both business objectives and user needs, I developed mid-fidelity wireframes as a pivotal step in the design process. These wireframes were crafted to strike a balance between detail and abstraction, providing enough structure for the development team to grasp the logic and functionality without being overwhelmed by unnecessary complexity or too much simplicity. Our team found that working with mid to high-fidelity wireframes, rather than low-fidelity ones, facilitated clearer communication and a more accurate representation of the final product. By leveraging these wireframes, we were able to streamline the development process and ensure that the resulting solution met both business and user requirements effectively.

Design Goals
1. Understand users' needs and expectations from a Comcast security product perspective of 6 key user groups: Viewers, IT Support, Analysts, Analyst IR Advanced, Administrators, and Primary Managers.

2. Identify main user actions they are all trying to achieve.

3. Write user stories to accompany the functionality of each user group.

4. Evaluate the effectiveness of the current design patterns. Propose and test new patterns and functionality to improve task completion.

5. Design a templated product experience for assigning and viewing user permissions.
Project Details

Endpoint Detection & Response is a responsive product. Across all screens and states, I advocated for accessibility to enhance the experience for all users. Documentation was added for behavior, interaction, and design consistency.

Communication
To gain a deep understanding of users' perspectives, needs, and pain points, I planned meetings with the main stakeholders and content strategist at a weekly cadence to identify new requirements, functionality, and behaviors to create a more efficient and user-friendly platform.

Wireframes
Designed low fidelity wireframes to give stakeholders and developers an idea of where components and interactive elements might be placed.

Designed Screens
Created high fidelity and final designs based on wireframe and interactive wireframes for approval while advocating for usability and accessibility standards and principles throughout the design process.

Pattern Library
Developed a comprehensive pattern library comprised of functionality, behaviors, interactions, and components.
The Process

The designed three main screens: resources, users, and user profile.

The designs for Endpoint Detection & Response set the precedent for smaller permission products moving forward for Comcast Business. It was the stepping stone for larger products where users can access and view their permissions for all products they are part of.
